Not that I'm disagreeing with you by any means, but there's also a larger population that ties into that statement.
Big cities will always have higher crime rates because there's more people.

The gun control laws came as a result of this high murder rate. Second it is difficult to expect any positive effects from gun control when the surrounding states do not have similar laws
