Re: Cumine+Camino+MTH+Sdram...is likely how the comparisons will get made

That's a real possibility. But I expect Intel to try to keep that from happening. Unless Intel makes it very clear that MTH slows systems down, then SDRAM to SDRAM comparisons with Athlon will end up making Intel CPUs look terrible and Coppermine could get the reputation of the uncached Celeron.

Consumers would be sent the message that rambus can make even a Coppermine look good, and the only company that makes a decent CPU is AMD. And no matter how eager they are to support rambus, I don't think Intel is anxious to see their own products look like junk.

KZ,

Coppermine may look good or bad against Athlon but it is hard to draw a conclusion on Rambus on that. It is more likely that Rambus will be judged on how it does in Coppermine vs Coppermine with sdram. But the various chip sets may confuse that comparison also.

If drdram delivery shortfalls occur it seems likely that EOMs will deliver Cumine+Camino+MTH+Sdram to avoid not shipping at all. So we will have otherwise identical boxes coming in two versions: drdram and MTH+Sdram and this is likely how the comparisons will get made.

It will be totally bogus since the sdram systems are crippled by the MTH but the comparisons will be made. I expect that unclewest and others will bombard this thread with every benchmark as they get released one by one, all showing the Rambus system being faster. It will be impossible to read the fine print through all the smoke.

You will have plenty of opportunity to compare Cumine+Camino+RDRAM to Cumine+Via+PC133.

Any and all comparisons are valid. Intel may not let me choose Cumine+Camino+SDRAM, but GM doesn't let me choose any color I want for my new car, only those that are offered. Amana doesn't let me choose the exact height of my new refrigerator, only the heights that they make. Intel is not required to make Cumine+Camino+SDRAM available as an option any more than GM is required to make a car for me that's peach colored, or Amana has to make a refrigerator for me that 84.3625" tall. Have you written letters to GM or Amana decrying their abominable practices?
