When I went to St. Mary of the Pines in Chattawa, Mississippi, (a Catholic girl's boarding school) there were bats in the belfrey, literally, and the attic of the gymnasium. They would come out at sunset, and fly around, in big flocks or whatever they are) twittering. One time one of the bats came into the gymnasium, where we used to congregate after supper, and flew around. All the girls were shrieking in terror that one would fly into their hair. Not all, of course, you know I didn't, just the shrieky girl types. The rest of us chased it out using brooms. It was ugly, I thought, but I had been told that bats eat insects, so we didn't want to kill it.
