Dutch 2nd-Qtr Oil Production Falls 5.8%; Gas Output Drops 9.6%

The Hague, Sept. 6 (Bloomberg) -- The Netherlands' oil
production fell 5.8 percent in the second quarter while natural
gas output declined by 9.6 percent, according to preliminary
government statistics.

Combined offshore and onshore crude output fell to 0.50
million cubic meters in the second quarter, or 34,651 barrels a
day, from 0.53 million cubic meters, or 36,774 barrels a day, in
the year-earlier quarter, according to the Netherlands' Economics
Ministry.

Production of natural gas fell to 13.45 billion cubic meters
from 14.88 billion cubic meters in the second quarter of 1998,
the government said.

First-half crude production fell 7.3 percent and gas
production dropped 1.4 percent, the government said without
providing further details.

London-traded Brent crude rose as much as 37 cents, or 1.8
percent, to $21.40 a barrel, close to last week's 22-month high.
