Healing of the flap is not an issue...flaps have been made in the cornea for ~ 40 years in ophthalmology...the main advantage of LASIK over PRK is healing, much faster with LASIK, end results are similar(assuming we are not talking about high myopia, >8 diopters)...In most cases the patient is not given the choice of which procedure they can have...in most cases patient just want to get rid of their myopia...in most cases the MD does what he feels he or she know how to do and that is in the best interest of the patient (to get the patient the results desired)...later...
