Let me find out tomorrow. I don't know if the Rambus protocol is flexible enough to accomodate the "reformulated" version. I think it should be, though I'm not certain.

No. Rambus is protocol based, so I find it hard to believe that there would be no provision for adjusting such things at the BIOS level if not automatically. It might be possible to deduce more by studying the data sheets, or asking Rambus.
