"RDRAM IS BEING SUPPORTED BY 96% OF THE WORLD'S MEMORY MANUFACTURERS ACCORDING TO IDF LITERATURE"

"THE DEGREE OF SUPPORT FROM THE MANUFACTURERS, WHO HAD VOCALLY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE HIGH COSTS ASSOCIATED IN PRODUCING THE SENSITIVE RIMMs OVER THE PAST YEAR, SEEMS TO NOW BE VERY HIGH. THE LARGEST EXHIBITION BOOTHS AT THE SHOW CONTAINED RDRAM RIMMs FROM ALMOST EVERY POSSIBLE VENDOR, IN CONFIGURATIONS UP TO 256MB PC800 FORMAT"

"...AS THE QUANTITIES OF RDRAM PRODUCTION RAMP UP TO LARGE LEVELS, THE PRICE SHOULD FALL SUBSTANTIALLY AFTER THE FIRST SIX MONTHS."

"LATE SEPTEMBER IS THE TIME THAT RDRAM MARKETING WILL SWING INTO HIGH GEAR AS LARGER PC INTEGRATORS SUCH AS DELL AND COMPAQ OFFER COMPLETE i820/AGP 4X/RDRAM SYSTEMS TO THE CONSUMER."

Note: this instigation of marketing in September fits exactly with my prediction regarding Intel's awareness of the OSBOURNE EFFECT that I discussed with RAMBUS CFO Gary Harmon this June. (See my SI post# 23811 in June 1999}
Remember, there are "gag clauses" on all the RAMBUS vendors so that Intel and Rambus control when all out marketing begins. I suggested that the marketing would not come about until the products are available to be purchased by the consumer.

I found this article in Sharky Extreme titled "Hardware Article; Camino:Gaining Momentum" (Reporting on the IDF meeting). It included a picture of "Various RDRAM RIMMs"...very interesting to see the hardware.
