Loblolly pines are very, very tall, and the lower branches don't start until maybe 50 ft up. (I could be exaggerating, it might be 30, but certainly not low enough to reach without a VERY tall ladder) I don't know anything about the wood, but my father's mother had a house in the middle of a loblolly forest, and they sounded beautiful in the wind and rain. No underbrush, I don't know if it had been cut away or what, but I thought that it was due to the dense tops of the trees keeping out light. And the ground was carpeted in pine needles, soft to walk on. Heaven. Well, North Biloxi, heaven for a little girl.
