Dell Trims Prices Up to 18 Percent On OptiPlex PCs; Cost Reductions Extend Dell's Price Leadership
BUSINESS WIRE - September 07, 1999 08:20
ROUND ROCK, Texas, Sep 7, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today reduced prices up to 18 percent on its OptiPlex(R) business desktop PCs based on Intel's Pentium(R) II and Pentium III processors.

Dell said the price cuts result from component cost declines and direct-model efficiencies gained through increased online technical support and Internet sales, which have reached $30 million per day.

"Dell has always leveraged its direct model to quickly pass along component cost reductions to customers," said Danny Young, director of marketing for OptiPlex products. "And Dell's corporate and institutional customers are leveraging Dell's Internet commerce and tech-support features to reduce procurement costs and increase their own productivity."

Dell recently implemented new features for its more than 27,000 customer-specific Premier Pages including simplified navigation, dynamic product pricing and easier ordering of standard system configurations.
