LG develops technologies for DVD title
production
koreaherald.co.kr

LG Electronics has developed key technologies to produce DVD (digital
versatile disc) titles for the first time in Korea, and released three titles using these
technologies, the company said yesterday.

Korean manufacturers depend on foreign firms for the "mastering" and
"pressing" technologies of DVD title production. LG has invested 12 billion won to
develop the two technologies on its own.

LG released three movie titles on DVD, "Mask," "Big Time" and "Hard Lane,"
in cooperation with Spectrum Co., a local DVD software developer.

The demand for DVD titles is expected to reach 100,000 in Korea and 35
million worldwide.

LG was first to develop an 8x DVD ROM drive in Korea in early August and is
currently working on DVD RAM with a 4.7 GB capacity. The company also
expects to sell 700,000 DVD players at home and abroad this year. (HJJ)
