Weighing in at 25 carats... AmericanSapphire.com Marks Sapphire Month With 'Win Your Weight in Sapphires' Contest

TORONTO, Sept. 7 /CNW/ - From web site to mine site at the click of a
mouse. American Gem Corporation (TSE:GEM) celebrates Sapphire Month this
September with its Win Your Weight in Sapphires contest, a chance to win a
trip to Montana to spend the weekend mining for raw sapphires simply by
visiting the company's new web site www.AmericanSapphire.com
''In recognition of Sapphire Month, we are giving AmericanSapphire.com
visitors an opportunity to experience the mining process first-hand -- from
the dig to the finished stone,'' says Gene Lewis, Vice President of Marketing
for American Gem, creators of AmericanSapphire.com. ''Not only does American
Gem offer one of the only online sites dedicated to sapphires, but this
contest is the first of its kind to offer gem lovers a chance to dig their own
sapphires.''
The contest winners will experience the true gem mining process and will
have an opportunity to dig up to their weight in rough sapphires*. The
winners will be able to take home the raw sapphires they uncover at the Gem
Mountain site, the biggest sapphire mine in North America.
As one of the largest sapphire producers in the world, American Gem
produced half a million carats during 1995/96, primarily from its Gem Mountain
mine in Montana. American Gem sapphires are known for their unrivaled clarity,
and the company leads the industry in its high quality sapphire cutting
techniques. From its Gem Mountain mine, American Gem offers a large inventory
of sapphires in a wide range of colors, from the traditional blue through
exceptional green, orange, pink and purple, depending on mineral deposits
running through the stones. All stones are offered loose or in jewelry
settings on AmericanSapphire.com.
The Win Your Weight in Sapphires contest allows visitors to the
AmericanSapphire.com web site to enter to win a trip for two to Montana to dig
for sapphires at the company's Gem Mountain mine and tour this picturesque
area in the Rocky Mountains. American Gem will fly the winners from the
international airport closest to their home to Helena, Montana and will
provide accommodations for three nights. The contest is open to Canadian and
U.S. residents(xx) and runs September 7th to 30th. Also during September,
American Gem will hide a sapphire on a different link of the
AmericanSapphire.com website each day. The person who ''digs'' up the gem by
clicking on it with their mouse will win this sapphire.
American Gem is developing a number of e-commerce websites that will be
introduced later this year. The company will provide a wide range of financial
services, from on-line Initial Public Offerings and Mergers and Acquisitions
to on-line mortgages and securities trading under the banner ''eNorthern''.
Based in Toronto, American Gem also operates AmericanSapphire.com, an online
auction and sales site for the company's fine sapphires and jewelry.

* winners can dig up to 200 lbs. in rough sapphires
(xx) The Win Your Weight in Sapphires contest is not open to residents
of Quebec, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

I believe this company also operates a few aluvial sites along the Missourie River (sp?). My better half and I used to drive down there and pan the saphires all day for $25 if I recall. Got a couple of beautiful stones to show for my trouble.
