It's more compassionate to give a person fish to eat when they are hungry, than to teach them to fish so they can feed themselves.

I'm not sure where or how this discussion started, but honor is a double edged sword. On one side, you could consider sacrificing a kidney for transplant an honorable action, or taking a bullet for someone. However, honor can also equate to an overdeveloped sense of pride, leading to otherwise avoidable conflicts (e.g. the dueling scenario).
