I don't go to church, X. I found from personal experience that churches either twist the faith for their own purposes or are just plain full of hypocrites. I said that people don't have the right to take a life, only God. You can find any historical fact you want, my point is that a person should not take another's life. It will happen, ofcourse. Wars, murders, etc. The only exception I've heard is that in self defense it's ok.

What about the inquisition? Public hangings and killing in battle? All sanctioned by the church and apparently in accord with the Bible

As Col. Potter would say.....MULE FRITTERS

Of course killing is consistent with the Bible. The commandment which is wrongly translated "though shall not kill" really translates into "thou shall not commit manslaughter."

From the Holy Wars of the Jews to the current day where chaplains bless soldiers heading into battle, there is no prohibition against killing in a just cause, and it is presumed that there are times when God will direct believers to kill. (Christians, of course, must kill with love and regret, but they still may kill when directed to in a just cause.)

(Of course, I happen to belong to one of those cults which rejects this, but that's another story. Standard Judaism and Christianity in no way oppose killing.)
