Sony PSII has a CPU chip twice as large as Pentium III and graphics chip that is larger than that. These chips are made with complex dynamic logic which Sony and Toshiba have very little experience with. (Anybody remember AMD's problems getting the K6-2 yielding well?)

Oh, and they also use two drdrams. All this for a product replacing a product (PSI) that sells for $99.

Recently a lot of HW engineers have discovered the concept of using SW to subsidize HW. They like that idea! NOTE: There have been 50 MU PSI sold. Losing $200 per unit results in $10B lose. The entire game console SW biz last year for all vendors was $8B (yes, I mixed cum with annual but you get the point.)

My post was meant to indicate that I don't believe that they will just sail right into a volume ramp without major disappointments.
