I learned my lesson on margin in the Fall of '97 in the semi equip bear market. Luckily, through an infusion of new capital, I was able to arrange it so I could hold on until the current boom, but it was not a pleasant experience. I found out just how brain dead it is to be on margin when P/Es are high. I hope anyone who is on margin who reads this will take heed and cut their risk ASAP.

I think there was a 300 basis point move on the long bond prior to the 1987 crash.
