JP--

point taken<G>. still, i find it necessary to from time to time think about just how collapsable a lot of what we think of as stable is. one chinese or russian 'weather satellite' and most of north america goes dark. i dont know about you, but without my check card i am SOL<G>.

i see your point regarding the broad base of the economy today. however, there can still be problems. at that point agribusiness was still a substantial component of the economy. now, its services in one form or another. i have seen what happens to the service sector duing a recession first hand. its not at all pretty.

i look at things as if there is no really good case and there is no really bad case. i know borrowing is at historic levels. this is a much larger problem than the 80s RE crises because there really isnt anything backing a lot of these loans. sure, there are houses, but the CC debt is so substantial that it could cause real problems. my point is that if there is a substantail downturn you could see banks collapse with few if any viable assets with which to pull themselves back.

however, i feel that things will eventually work themselves out bad and good. so, its always best to be cautious and have some insurance. as i told my father not too long ago, the great thing about the market is that you can make money on the way up and on the way down<G>.

good luck to all,
trey
