zuma rk- OT:star office...

Hi zuma rk,

Thank you for the article.

I have never read a pro Micorsoft article in the Los Angeles Times. However, I have read many anti-Microsoft articles.

This Linux Software scare reminds me of the network computer scare that was supposedly going to replace the need for PCs. Never happened.

To think that corporations are going to go with a program that is similar to MS Office just because it is free indicates the the limited perspective of the author. IT within a corporation is not just concerned with functionality. What about training? What about interoperability? What about support? What about programming platforms? What about upgrades? What about feedback and responsiveness?

Also the comparison the author uses is misses the boat. The reason the free browser giveaway worked so well is because the freebie was given away by the platrom owner (Microsoft). To say that a non-platform owner is going to have the same success shows a lack of insight.

Also, to get a corporation to switch it must be a lot better. If the end result of a migration is saving money and getting the same product it won't fly. Also, accountability is never mentioned. If a company is going to put their critical applications on a server, who is going to respond to their concerns... Redhat? What leverage does the corporation have if they are not paying for the product?

Just my opinion.

Jon :)
