Cramer 9/7/99 2:09 PM ET So Brocade's (BRCD:Nasdaq) on the tube, JDS Uniphase (JDSU:Nasdaq) is in town and ICGE (ICGE:Nasdaq) gets a shot on "Squawk" tomorrow. One thing is for certain: The Red Hots never let you down. They get all of the airtime. They are the stars of every conference. They pop up constantly on every business station. These guys are like Gwyneth Paltrow, Keanu Reeves and Leonardo DiCaprio. You can't stop them. You see them everywhere. They are part of the hype machine that has become the stock market and its various media accoutrements. Yes, if there was any one development in the business world that I am sure of, it is the newfound need for stars. We need them. We root for them. We see them on the tube. We want them to win. We cheer for them in chat rooms. They don't call them Red Hots for nothing. Even as I write, my partner, Jeff Berkowitz, is on his way to see JDS Uniphase as the September conference season goes into full swing. He'd better loosen his tie and go with a fan -- it will be so hot in there. The Red Hots as an index don't have much traction today. ("Traction" is Red Hot-speak for "has vicious adherents that love it and boost it.") But individual members? The promotion machine is in full tilt today. What a great time to be a Red Hot.
