Elmer, Why did Intel give this to AMD(286), no quid pro quo? It sounds as if they wanted to exit the 286 and made a deal with AMD?
I recall the lawsuits way back with 386 and the final resolution with AMD allowed to do some things and not others and AMD was caught with inactive microcode on the die and the judge did not like that. Smart thing would be to kill that microcode with a cut or two so it would not infringe.
At least now AMD runs honestly?
