Slightly OT; Sony
Joe, if you're right in suggesting that Sony's Memory Stick could be on the losing end, then it's possible that Sony sshares are way overpriced. I realize that Sony is into a lot of diffferent markets, but if the Memory Stick decision is wrong headed, it is symptomatic of really serious management decision making problems.

I'm not so sure I'd go that far, because memory stick must be a tiny part of their business, and maybe they have taken the calculation that all the profits on stick (ie a monopoly) is better than few or none on cf. Or maybe its a not invented here issue.
I would certainly hesitate and look very carefully before buying a SOny device that had this proprietary memory, the device (camera, mp3 whatever) would have to be really outstanding before I would buy one. maybe the general public wouldnt be quite that careful and would only find out what sort of memory it had after they bought it. But I expect that to change fairly quickly as more and more people accumulate 'legacy' cf modules and become interested in preserving their investment.
