johnd, why not sell your remaining 25% in msft and pray that msft drops to $0 so you can get all your shares back for "FREE" just like star office LOL.

my money is betting that you are dead wrong with your predictions for msft and the market as a whole. i am fully invested in a 100% msft only portfolio so i've got my money where my mouth is.

i have a hunch that of the 100,000 downloads of star office, more than 50% of the downloads were by curious georges and at least 50,000 if not far more have already taken star office off of their hard drives.

i'm not sure if anyone has actually considered how many "FREE" copies of msft office are floating around out there. the amount of revenues that msft loses due to illegal copies must be staggering.

believe me, those who really want a "FREE" office suite will find a way to get msft office for free and surely won't put up with a second rate imitation.

remember folks, it's never too late to buy msft!!

Johnd, MSFT does not issue these puts at set times. It is not unusual to see no change in the highest strike price from one quarter to the next. The fact that they are issueing these puts is still bullish for the stock.
I have thought about picking MSFT at a bottom just like you (but without all the analysis you do). However, i decided against it after I saw some rallying in August. There is no scare leading into September/October as i had been expecting. On the contrary there are too many bargain hunters that will jump into a stock on any weakness, especially a tech stock. No world financial crisis either. Even if one occurs, the 30year bond yield goes down and again the techs rally.

Good Luck with your timing but just as JFD stated earlier---a settlement with the DOJ and this stock goes up in a hurry. That is not a risk i would be willing to take. Remember all the negativitity on this stock has already held it back just like Intel was held back due to the belief that the chip margins would be going down due to the sub 1000 PC. Intel has exploded upward and i would expect that MSFT has the same type of potential upward move. It might be one of the defensive stocks one can hold given that it has not reached its all time high and not moved like others in the sector.
