[World DRAM Price] Spot Price Soars, Exceeding Long-Term Price
September 8, 1999 (TOKYO) -- The 30-day rolling average price of 64Mb DRAMs (PC100, 8M x 8) until Aug. 20 for large users was US$5.84 in North America, US$5.55 in Europe and US$5.90 in Asia.

This is according to ICIS-LOR, which has business bases in London, Houston and Singapore.

The moving average price fell 1 percent in North America, rose 3.61 percent in Europe and 0.58 percent in Asia from the previous week (the rolling average price through Aug. 13).

For memory modules compared with the previous week, the spot price of 64MB dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs, PC100) rose 6.62 percent to US$50.16 in North America, 5.81 percent to US$51.36 in Europe and 3.08 percent to US$51.75 in Asia.

The 30-day rolling average price of 64Mb DRAMs (PC100) showed that the spot price exceeded the long-term price in every area. During the week of Aug. 23, the price was higher than US$8.00. In the DRAM market now under the suppliers' oligopoly, the decision-making on prices is at the hands of the suppliers.
