Nice kudos, but it doesn't rate a 17% increase: PC DOCS/FULCRUM Wins Microsoft Industry Solution Award For Third Consecutive Year Toronto, Canada, September 2, 1999 -- Hummingbird Communications Ltd. (NASDAQ: HUMC, TSE: HUM) today announced PC DOCS/Fulcrum won a Microsoft Industry Solution Award for the third consecutive year. The company placed first in the 'Best Publish and Search Solution' category for a web-based knowledge management application installed at the European Court of Human Rights and Directorate of Human Rights. PC DOCS/Fulcrum worked with the Court to build HUDOC, a web-based knowledge management solution based on DOCSFulcrum software. HUDOC acts as a central document repository for human rights services and a portal to all decisions and judgements made by the Court. The site was created for the benefit of the Council of Europe's 41 states, but is publicly accessible at no charge to the end user at dhcour.coe.fr "Using DOCSFulcrum technology, the Court is exploiting the Internet to give our member states and the rest of the world gateway access to all case law of the European Court of Human Rights and related human rights documents. We are very pleased with the success we've had using DOCSFulcrum, and we believe this knowledge base can contribute to the further protection of human rights," said John Hunter, IT Specialist, European Court of Human Rights. "For the third year in a row PC DOCS/Fulcrum has demonstrated its excellence in providing scalable, robust document and knowledge management solutions that utilize the Microsoft BackOffice platform," said Jeffrey Kratz, Knowledge Management industry manager at Microsoft. "The company's victories at the Microsoft Industry Solution Awards year after year are a testament to PC DOCS/Fulcrum's innovative technology, as well as its close relationship with its customer base." "We are honored to be selected as a winner of the Microsoft Industry Solution Award for the third consecutive year. Having secured the award for best document management solution in two previous years, we are delighted with this recognition of the HUDOC solution as early evidence of our work in the direction of web-based portal technologies. This award demonstrates our consistent delivery of powerful knowledge and document management products, as well as the inventive ways our customers choose to implement these tools," said Michael O'Connor Clarke, Vice President, Hummingbird Communications. The Microsoft Industry Solution Awards salute outstanding independent software vendors in the document systems market which are best utilizing Microsoft products to provide tangible benefits to businesses and organizations that manage volumes of unstructured information. Winners are selected based on scalability, ease of adoption, relationship with their customers, and integration with line-of-business applications. The awards were presented during the DCI's Data Warehouse World Conference in New York City yesterday. In addition to being selected as the 'Best Search and Publish Solution', PC DOCS/Fulcrum placed as one of the top three finalists in the area of 'Best Content and Document Management Solution' with an application developed by the Public Service Company of New Mexico. PC DOCS/Fulcrum won the same distinction in both 1997 and 1998. About the European Court of Human Rights and the Directorate of Human Rights The Court and the Directorate work under the auspices of the Council of Europe, which was set up in 1949 to promote democracy and human rights continent-wide. The Court is a judicial body competent to adjudicate complaints brought against a state by individuals or associations on grounds of violation of the European Convention of Human Rights. The Directorate of Human Rights deals with other human rights treaties and activities in areas such as social rights, torture, minorities, etc. ____________________________________ But I guess this award validates the knowledge portal idea, which is what a lot of the future hangs on at HUMC.
