LRR, I am with you right up until Somewhere in between is the spectrum of personal cutoff points as to where prudence ends and murder begins. I think that this is the crux of the discussion, should this be a personal decision as to cutoff points or do we need as a society to determine the cutoff point at which we recognize personhood and all of the rights that personhood entails?

I did not post my personal experience to try to push my position. I did it to convey that I am not some guy in a black robe who has no comprehension of what an unwanted--possibly destructive--pregnancy can do to a woman. I posted it to convey that my own experience has helped to shape my philosophical position.

My position actually stems from libertarianism, not from some formal religion. (Hey, LRR, you just met one!) I as a libertarian and a feminist am uneasy with definitions of persons entitled to rights that are determined in each person's mind. Even to the point of feeling concern that a blastula might not be a person.

Do you understand this train of thought--meaning, am I being clear as to my reasoning?
