<Yes, you are correct: Cheryl really does believe the Y2K is going to be a horror show.>

Horror show? LOL, here's what I told Cheeky last month: "IMHO - The truth is somewhere in the middle."

<However, I just talked to a couple of people high up on the technical and marketing sides of Computer Associates and, because of what the company is seeing in its worldwide customer base, they are not on the side of the worriers. They acknowledge that there will be lots of problems -- problems, not disasters. Same info from a friend in the intelligence end of the State Dept.>

You and I just run in different circles. My personal contacts have primarily been in the oil industry. Owners of companies in the $40 mil - $600 mil range. They've assured me a few months ago that there's nothing to worry about ... that "Bill Gates is gonna fix that Y2K thing". And "if it breaks, we'll just fix it". This was the best line, "Don't tell me about the problems, tell me how to make money off this Y2K deal." They've been working on their software systems ... but not the process control stuff.

I was gonna say "ROFLMAO" to the above, because it's absurd. However, I got a call a few days ago from a dear friend (one of the wives), who's worried because her husband and his friends aren't taking this seriously. I hadn't talked to her in ages. I was very surprised to hear from her.

What pushed her over the edge was a son and daughter-in-law working on Y2K projects in Denver, and friends of theirs working on various aspects of Houston infrastructure.

I spoke with a friend yesterday, who gave briefings to the CIA on potential Y2K-related global trade problems. He's not as optimistic as you and your buddies.

Another friend has been approached by, and has been in discussions with, two e-commerce companies to be CEO. LOL - The stuff one of the companies is selling via the net ... They have NO idea if any of the suppliers are Y2K OK. They haven't investigated any of their vendors or suppliers.

Edwarda, to each his own. You have your opinion. I have mine. We each have different viewpoints and frame of reference.

Neither of us knows exactly what will happen, do we? We'll find out soon enough.

I'd rather be safe than sorry with my preps ... for myself, my family and friends. You think otherwise. That's fine. Doesn't bother me.

Cheryl

P.S. Had a great time rafting the Rogue River this weekend with friends. All work, and no play ...
