I do feel compassion for you if screening the media for suitability is that demanding. I don't know why I am more fortunate, but my sons are 14 and 11, and have zero, as far as I can see, interest in gratutous sex and violence. The most difficult decision for me, as a parent, was how much of the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal to let them know about. They did, from time to time, sit with me and my husband and watch "Hardball" with Chris Matthews, or the impeachment hearings, and I did have to explain more than I cared to, but I figured, if they are old enough to ask, they are old enough to be told the truth. Somewhat filtered. The raunchiest thing they've expressed any interest in, otherwise, is James Bond movies.

Browsing in search of empirical evidence, I encounter this: The response of the great democracies to Hilter's oppression and attempted extermination of the Jews as well as his attempt at global hegemony is evidence to the contrary of your assertion. Life was sacred then and the free world responded with unbelievable determination and sacrifice to snuff out the 100 Year Reich and the other Axis powers. The German extermination of the Jews and the Japanese atrocities in China proceeded merrily for years with no response at all from the great democracies. Until their expansionist tendencies intruded directly on our spheres of interest we were perfectly content to sit back and watch. I think you need a better example.
