Well, it seems I was not the only one confused with their mailing.

I do not see this necessarily as a stock split, although, they may split 5 for 4 just to appease the shareholders. Rather, it seems that they are going to use this primarily for acquisition purposes. With their stock currency so high, they can pick up a few more companies to fill any gaps in their lines. This is not necessarily bad for the shareholders so long as we pick up companies that are accretive to earnings (HLIT would be a good example). Let us hope that they don't pull a Cisco and pay $6 billion for a company with $10 million in sales and no earnings. Cisco can get away with something like that. I doubt if JDSU could without the stock price getting hammered.
