<Are you getting carried away by a alpha CPU booting on an alpha OS with almost no application support and implying that a potential x86 64-bit extension is 18-months behind? Could you be this naive?>

Maybe that pales in comparison to the naivety expressed by those who already have high hopes for a 64-bit K8.

Chuckles - Re: "Are you getting carried away by a alpha CPU booting on an alpha OS with almost no application support and implying that a potential x86 64-bit extension is 18-months behind? "

Yes - I'm getting carried away !

With OS support from Linux, HP, Sun Solaris, Windows 2000/64, IBM/Compaq/SCO Unix - there doesn't appear to be anyone left to monkey with a 64 bit x86 OS.

Of course, AMD is free to develop their own !

Re: "Could you be this naive? "

No - but you sure appear to be !
