Well, that piece of news is bound to stir some action tomorrow, it might be worth $.17 pretax this year and $1.36 next year:

Maybe the PE looking forward one year is not much greater than about 30, if we assume another $1.70 from all other sources.

I calculate that just based on incremental samsung order RMBS should meet calendar year 2000 estimate of $1. Rough calculation:
RMBS should earn about 0.30/sh in FY99.
1.7% (assumed) x $2B samsung = $34M
assume 50% aftertax net margin = 17M = 0.68/sh
0.30 sh + 0.68 sh = $1/sh
this does not include other chip makers

Re: Do you think Samsung had already addressed reduction in 32 independent banks already ...

This looks like it is the shrink from .25 to .18 that Samsung has already announced. If that's the case, it's good news for rambus, not great news since it was supposed to come in at .18, not .19, so costs won't be going down quite as much as they had hoped. It's still in the ballpark though, better than anyone else has managed so far. NEC and Micron are supposed to be right behind them.

It's probably not bank reduction.

If this is what has happened, it's their way of saying the .18 process didn't quite make it, but that they got pretty close.

Samsung completed development of the second-generation Rambus DRAM with .18æm process technology. The new version is smaller and more price-competitive than the first-generation version. The company will also introduce 256-Mbit and 288-Mbit Rambus DRAM.

The new chips, which it said form the second generation of Rambus DRAMs, are produced using a 0.19 micron design rule and are 30 percent smaller than the conventional ones, Samsung said.

re: <Do you think Samsung had already addressed reduction in 32 independent banks already with Intel's blessing and announced it today. They are claiming 30% reduction in die size.>

No way on that bank reduction. This is just the process shrink down to 0.19u.
