Lucent Invests in Horizon Photonics
9/7/99 Allentown, PA-based Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group today has taken an equity position in privately held Horizon Photonics Inc., an emerging company in the automated manufacture of passive optical components. Financial terms of the investment were not disclosed.

The investment gives Lucent access to technologies and products that leverage Horizon's low-cost automated manufacturing processes. It also provides Lucent a timely and adequate supply of passive components for incorporation into leading-edge optoelectronic components used in high-bandwidth optical networking systems.

Hello Herc,

Despite how I may or may not feel about a particular company, I would be stepping outside of my charter if I endorsed any individual company's stock. That doesn't stop me from approving, or disapproving, and offering up opinions on generic technology direction, tho.

I do endorse the direction and the endeavors of those organizations (be they companies, or universities, or whomever) who enhance the process of shrinking the form factors associated with optical multiplexing devices.
