Is THAT why my trade executed so high? <ggg>

Seriously, yes that happened to me a few times before I switched to limit orders.

I see that person is now ahead $19 1/2 as I type.

Wow! make that $19 11/16 - oops 3/4 <g>

WARNING WARNING WARNING
I can't help myself. The potential is just too good. I'm going to sell my Nokia and buy another 1000 MRVC. (We really need a 12 step program.) Last time I bought, it dropped immediately so I wanted to give you all fair warning. Yesterday I decided that Global Crossing was dead money for at least the rest of the year so I took the tax loss and bought an equal number of shares of GNSS. GBLX is now up over 4 points!!

I hope there isn't an inverse relationship between portfolio performance and judgement. I'm now up more this year than I earned in the 8 1/2 years at the community college before they outsourced me.

By the way John, you will get used to the inefficiency, lack of motivation, stupidity and waste. It takes about a year to get over the initial shock and then you gradually accept it. Maybe MRVC will rescue you from government bureaucracy hell. Or you could just get it over with and mouth off to a reporter about the college's stupidity and --walla!!!-- in a few months you'll be back with us full time.<G>

Cheers,
Bob

Greg,

I somewhat disagree with your criticism of online brokers. Getting stock above the ask is an old trick of the major trading firms. And Sector is right, always, but always use limit orders unless you just have to have it now at any price.

By the way, as a long time investor, and a rather large share holder of MRVC, a BIG thanks to the many fine posts/posters which helped us keep the faith during some tough periods, as you all know.

Regards

Bill

Consider the difference in the work done. Say "buy MRVC" and you know you have it, at a price near where you last saw it while it was going up. Otherwise you put a bid maybe etween bid and ask and you have to watch to see if it takes, maybe the price moves higher and you have to agonize whether to rachet the bid up or not, etc. If you're ready to buy the stock you are willing to hold it even if it takes on some water, whyu quibble over $100. BTW I doubt any broker would get better treatment on a market order. OTOH suppose you are putting together a modest portfolio in $500 increments from odd lots. In this case the standard broker rapes you - deep discount is the only way to go.
