(This was likely a response to the disappointing productivity numbers. If they didn't spend so much time cooking the numbers, these government officials would be productive.)

The last thing in the world you should want is a productive government. Allowing them to cook the numbers just adds variety to their lives of deception. Let them have their salaries, their pensions, their kickbacks, their petty corruptions and their illusion of self-importance. Allowing them to become bored and dissatisfied only leads to worse mischief.
