Chas, no one's ever accused Compaq of being well run company. At least not recently <g> Here are CPQ's memory options from their site: athome.compaq.com A Product Price Inventory 128MB SDRAM 100Mhz Memory $529.95 Available Buy Now More Info 128MB SDRAM 66Mhz Memory $499.95 Available Buy Now More Info 16MB EDO Memory Kit $59.95 Available Buy Now More Info 16MB SDRAM 100Mhz Memory $79.95 Available Buy Now More Info 16MB SyncDRAM Memory $69.95 Available Buy Now More Info 32MB EDO Memory Kit $99.95 Available Buy Now More Info 32MB SDRAM 100Mhz Memory $149.95 Available Buy Now More Info 32MB SyncDRAM Memory $129.95 Available Buy Now More Info 64MB SDRAM 100Mhz Memory $299.95 Available Buy Now More Info 64MB SDRAM 66Mhz Memory $249.95 Available Buy Now More Info That's a pretty good markup. Here's Crucial's: Module Size Memory Type Part Number List Price Ea. Web Price Ea. Qty Order 16MB DIMM CT155842 $29.99 $25.49 32MB DIMM CT155840 $59.99 $50.99 64MB DIMM CT155836 $123.99 $105.39 64MB DIMM PC133 CT155845 $129.99 $110.49 128MB DIMM CT155846 $239.99 $203.99 128MB DIMM PC133 CT155841 $249.99 $212.49 I would assume the 15% coupon is 15% off Crucial's price. Maybe not those exact prices, but I think the orders are routed to Crucial. Compaq is now educating consumers that instead of overpaying for memory upgrades through OEM's, they have options. They can go to the Crucial site and pay what would seem to be around $180 bucks less than buying it from CPQ direct (even before the discount). They could also go to a retailer or white box maker and do the same. The great thing is from Crucial's standpoint - this lesson just isn't applied to just CPQ consumers, but to DELL, GTW, HWP, etc. So, maybe it has legs beyond the mere CPQ end. Then again, the PR didn't give the stock much in the way of legs. Age old question - is it a DRAM company with publically traded stock, or a stock that also has a DRAM business? <g> Good trading, Tom
