Cabletron COO Romulus Pereira to Set Next-Generation Internet Agenda
Pereira Participates in Networld+Interop Atlanta Convergence Showdown
ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1999--Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS - news) today announced that Romulus Pereira, the company's chief operating officer and architect of its convergence strategy, will participate in the Convergence Showdown at Networld+Interop in Atlanta.

The Showdown features Pereira and counterparts from 3Com, Lucent, Nortel and Vertical Networks debating the ''reality and mythology of voice/data convergence,'' according to show materials.

Pereira will continue to expand Cabletron's assertion that the Internet represents a technology inflection point that will benefit society in yet-undiscovered ways, and that convergence is a necessary step toward realizing the full potential of the tool.

The event, billed as a ''presidential-style'' debate by show organizers, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM in the Georgia World Congress Center. The panel, chaired by Network World Editor-in-Chief, John Gallant, includes

Jim Duffy, senior editor of Network World; Jim Metzler, principal of Ashton Metzler and Associates; and Kevin Tolly, president of The Tolly Group.

''Many of Cabletron's service provider and enterprise customers are already profiting from the reality of convergence,'' said Piyush Patel, Cabletron chairman and CEO. ''From voice-ready switches and routers to the industry's only end-to-end multi-vendor network management platform, Cabletron is uniquely qualified to claim a leadership role in the drive toward true voice/data convergence.''

I've seen enough of them going off at the ask to conclude that most of it is buying. Some trades are between the bid and ask, but most are at the ask. I think if I were to write a call on CS it would be more out of the money than the $20, but I don't see any positions open at this time.

I agree that if it were all CALL writing, then that would be bearish as to CS, but someone has to be willing to buy the options, even if you write them, you still have to have a buyer and there are plenty of buyers - even at the ask.
