phatbstrd, Great name. I used to get invited to analyst meeting in NY in the old days. Free drinks, food, Cubans,(real ones), and bull shit by the company. Its easy to be influenced after 5 JD's, 1/2 lb caviar, and a couple of Cubans. The next day we would shout from the roof tops to buy whatever company had the best spread at Harry's. I could get enough information for five or six stories about the company in one evening. Someone pointed out that Q* wouldn't be in NYC unless the news was great and I agree. I used to corner technical people and fire off questions about what was going on in development. One company in particular gained 1200% in six months and I wrote an article about it before it happened. An engineer for the company brought along to answer technical questions told me about their edge in development in game technology and how they would blow everybody else away. The management line was "its a competitive business" (of course I positioned along with all my friends before it happened) To get some meaningful information, work the edges of the crowd and talk to people who look like a deer caught in the headlights, thats where the real information comes from. Be careful in the crowd though, it will be full of shills promoting some crap company and product but because they are in the room with Q* people think its legit. They may say they are talking to the mighty Q* but you will be too so whats that worth. Bring back some news. (private mail me before you post) cdaiseyPhD@inside-Harry's with Boesky.com
