The readings I get are that Cisco has 90% share of routing but that 90% share is really not carrier-class IP routing, its enterprise routing trying to scale. Juniper right now has 100% share of the carrier-class IP router market as it is the only one with a product through trials. Juniper has been shipping for over 9 months and will have its next version out in the 1st half of 2000 as Cisco gets its first version ramping at about the same time. Juniper has a very solid lead and a very aggressive product roadmap. The M40 is the flagship product that is going to dominate next-generation carrier routing. Cisco will get share but they are not going to dominate this category, they will not be able to keep up given their LAN-based architecture.

ftr, I am bullish on both JNPR and CSCO

Bull, does this mean that you do not believe that any of the other terabit router startups will ever overtake Juniper's lead in the field?
