On a much more serious note: Job cuts on the rise, survey shows -

NEW YORK - The number of planned job cuts by major U.S. businesses
increased in August from a year earlier, a new survey shows. The monthly
survey by the employment firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas says planned
cuts rose 54% last month to 57,253 compared to 37,177 during August
1998, and up 4.7% from July of this year. The August increase marks the
17th straight month in which announced job cuts were above those during the
same month in the previous year.
The computer, commodity and service
industries were among those planning the most job cuts in the August survey.
