okey,

I have no idea about rightness or wrongness of the rumor. However, would it not be possible for some gas to show up through some mechanism - like cracks - before the actual gas bearing formation - especially if they are close? It would seem to me that a complete rock seal of something that is possibly 15K psi is almost impossible -sorta like gas escaping from a plastic pop bottle?
