Waitaminute though, isn't that as true of the QPL? So, Debian doesn't do KDE in it's distro?

No, we don't distribute KDE that is linked with the old QPL license. Even with the new QPL 2.0 version, we will not distribute it except in the cases where each author of the KDE component in question (which is GPL) includes an exception to the license that allows the two to be linked. The GPL and QPL are incompatible licenses, and it is illegal to distribute the two together (although many companies do).

Anyway, Debian is partnering with Corel for their desktop Linux thing. The bulk of Debian may be distributed by Corel (with WordPerfect). This is getting confusing. :)

This is welcomed. Just because we won't distribute proprietary software does not mean we try to prevent others from distributing our software bundled in any way they see fit. Also, Corel can get around the QPL/GPL problem of KDE by including Qt as part of the standard system libraries. The GPL has an exception clause for this, which is why you can link GPL programs with Motif libraries on Solaris (as an example).

Well, the point is that at least this particular piece of bloated code (unlike KDE and Gnome) is headed into a more ascended (and more widely used) space (portal version).

When I first read the StarPortal announcement, I thought it was just a vapourware announcement from Sun. But, I've read elsewhere on the net that this thing has been in the works for a long time, and a beta version was demonstrated almost two years ago. I hope it is successful.
