It won't forestall any flames! <g> It's a question I wonder about, too, but can't discuss now because I really do have to go get some work done!

Because a narrative has been constructed that put the churches on the side of reaction and obscurantism, and made skepticism and even atheism the agents of progress, through the auspices of science. Therefore, religious people are in the grip of priestcraft, and are incapable of free thought, while those who believe whatever they are told in the name of science and progress are free thinkers who are on the right side of history. Of course, as Nietzsche realized, the "death of God" was going to turn into quite a problem, and, in fact, lead to the twin tyrannies of Nazism and Communism, between them wreaking more havoc and causing more misery than any religious war or Inquisition. And science and technology, while they did better our lives, also created ever more powerful engines of warfare and weapons of mass destruction, and promulgated theories like racism and eugenics at various times that fed into the barbarity of the century, especially in Germany......

SofaSpud, I think the word "Religion" has been so abused so much that people don't have the first clue what it is. So I won't use it. What I will say is the God I know is a loving God, who loves his children with unconditional love. I am a Christian. And I believe that true Christians show love for their fellow man. If they're not doing this, then I think they need to study up a little more.
