Those Dratted Nines

<< Yet Another Look at Data Processing for September 9, 1999

Dire predictions have been made for data processing problems associated with September 9, 1999 ? 9/9/99. "Blown way out of proportion" is the phrase that comes to my mind. Since the date is near, and news coverage of the alleged problems has therefore been on the increase, I will address the issue again. I have already written three essays on the subject, and have written about it in part of another essay; I refer you to them for background information:

<< "My expectations for '9/9/99' are that little will happen on the day itself, but that certain transactions on that day will cause problems later, e.g., orders never getting filled, delays in processing records entered on that date, etc. These problems would likely take days or weeks to show up." >>

More than you probably ever wanted to know about the 9999 issue.
