All this underscores the mismanagement that has been in place for years. They just don't understand the difference between a design and a product. I don't think they ever will.

I'm no expert but it seems that AMD designed the Athlon to run at the lowest common denominator of available technology, available slot, BUS, chipset, available RAM etc...
So you are saying that the Taiwan motherboard makers don't have the technology to make an Athlon motherboard correctly? I would be surprised if that were true. As Ten alluded to earlier, Intel has more resources to assure compatible design interface between cpu and motherboard, perhaps making it easier for the Taiwan motherboard makers to copy.
