Tom Meredith; Dell not adverse to acquisitions.......Dell, founded in 1984 by Michael Dell, who was a student at
the University of Texas at the time, has shied from acquisitions
because the company's direct-sales structure is unlike most other
computer companies that sell through distributors.

Compaq, for example, struggled with its $9 billion purchase
of Digital Equipment Corp. last year.

Dell Chief Financial Officer Tom Meredith said the
ConvergeNet acquisition doesn't signal a change in that strategy.
At the same time, Dell will continue to look for small
transactions that can build its presence in fast-growing markets.
``If there are opportunities that present themselves, we are
not adverse to acquisitions,' he said.

The ConvergeNet acquisition won't add to Dell's earnings
until the company begins making new storage systems using
ConvergeNet's technology, Meredith said.

Perigee? Is that something like apogee?? <VBG> If it's pedigree their looking for, doesn't building a $110 billion business in ten years count!! <VVVBG> BTW I agree, very different and I love it too. Anybody who sells Dell will be very disappointed!

Aloha from Alohal

Greg,
Hi!!!

RE: MD is too young, an IBM CEO would have to be in his early 50s. Frankly MD does not have the same perigee as Gerstner, he will never have unless he goes back to school, which is not going to happen.

Gosh..I certainly hope he doesn't go back to school...but, I know he has a earned a better education than any other CEO there is...The knowledge he has learned from the virtual integration of the past 15 years has taught him more than any other CEO in the world...Afterall, why is he the most sought after speaker in the world?

Best, Kemble
