The recent strange bull run of the semi sector is due to shot squeezing. Even those money losers like AMD and MU were up strongly. There will be no way for AMD to make money in the future although the Street is expecting it may turn to positive financially. Itel's continuous price cutting will make AMD's efforts become to nothing but losing more $$$.

Brian, AMD makes quality products. Failure rate as good as Intel or better. In truth both Intel and AMD make a high quality product. As to SH rewards....perhaps some day if they can keep the current lead they will make some money. WIll Intel allow this? maybe, maybe not. Prior to the Athlon Intel had the safe bastions of the high end and server parts to cross subsidize a selective price cut program to stop AMD. Now it is clear that IBM, CPQ and a few others are not going to let AMD die they may choose to allow a degree of sharing as more profitable than a price war across all areas. We know Intel will win that, but they wiull also force AMD into the embrace of a deep pocket company, like IBM, and then Intel would find the attack harder. Better let AMD get strong enough to balk IBM etc as the optimum Intel profit path. No fun killing AMD and then having to try to kill IBM, all the while at small profits. AMD will not go down wihout draggin the Intel ASP down the drain too now they have the AThlon that will fight Intel for 2 years...and then the K8 is coming???
