Anyway, I can see why someone would have at least waited for the LX and bypassed the "beta" FX."

The "FX" was for the PPro and there was nothing "beta" about it. It was a solid chipset. The "LX" introduced AGP and was also solid. The BX is similar to the LX but with 100MHz FSB.
