Burnin can raise the long term reliability of products from a poor yielding process but it ain't cheap. A good yielding process may be able to do away with burnin altogether, or at least greatly reduce the BI hours. Net result is that AMD probably ships high quality product after BI but at an additional added cost if yields are low.

Tony, This is where Intel has beaten AMD at times. Apparently AMD had better yields of 286 386 and 486 parts at the end. Possibly better process?, possibly Intel stopped dev work and went onwards, leaving behind low margin stuff.
