Responding to a few items discussed earlier:

You mentioned the rather aggressive anti-religious reaction that has emerged in the US and the other democracies of the West. I wonder if this is in any way a consequence of the fact that Christianity is an inherently aggressive religion. Almost all organized Christian sects regard evangelism as an imperative; tolerance for other religions is a recent notion and is still not well entrenched. Certainly not all Christians are Emile Vidrines or Chris Lands, but there is no shortage of those, and they give the others a bad name, and leave non-Christians with little doubt that they would impose Christianity by force if they were not forcibly restrained from doing so.

People tend to resist aggression, whether physical or spiritual.

Regarding gay marriage, I believe that government should not impose sanctions on behaviour unless that behaviour infringes on the rights of others. Whose rights would be infringed upon by a gay marriage?

I do not believe that gay couples should be allowed to adopt. If one partner has a natural child from a previous marriage, you have a very tough call which could only be made on a case-to-case basis.
