I think that there are a hell of a lot of kids who reach sexual maturity without the slightest knowledge of human reproductive function, reproductive health, and contraception. I think this ignorance is directly involved in a hell of a lot of teen pregnancies, and is a major contributor to abortion rates.

Of course this is less of a problem in middle-class school districts where parents are educated and active, but it still exists.

I would agree that the schools are doing a horrendous job of teaching these things, but the effort needs to be made.

My solution would be to cut 90% of the bullshit, and line up a basic list of the bare minimum of sexual awareness that any reproductively mature person needs. The devise a curriculum to make sure that everyone understands these points. Forget about the rest of it.

A fairly minimalist approach would ideally be applied in deciding what is necessary.
