U.S. stocks seen steady ahead of Friday's PPI data

LONDON, Sept 9 (Reuters) - U.S. equity markets were seen opening broadly unchanged on Thursday, with investors expected to stay on the sidelines ahead of key producer prices data on Friday, London dealers said.

The September S&P 500 index future traded just 1.3 points above its estimated fair value of 1,345.3 by 1034 GMT, signalling a broadly flat start to Wall Street.

Dell Computer Corp (Nasdaq:DELL - news) was expected to be active after the world's second biggest personal computer maker said late on Wednesday it would buy network storage company ConvergeNet Technologies Inc in a stock deal valued at about $340 million.

It would be Dell's first acquisition in its 15-year history.

Dell stock (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: DELL.F) in Frankfurt rose $1/2 to about $48-1/8.
