Burt:

Your summary of AMD's current competitive position is very nicely done. Anyone investing in AMD would be doing themselves a favor to compare their rationale for doing so against your post. I will bookmark your post and revisit in mid 2000.

Regards,

Greg

Burt, At the time Jerry is at the wall, showmanship will go no further. He was unable to get mobo makers to do preparatory work due to his/AMDs bad performance in the past. As to wall street cosying up to him.....give me a break....the only thing that will speak now is the Athlon's performance over the next 2 years.
The Athlon intro was managed as well as it could be with no motherboards from others being made unbtil they saw volume production of good processors. AMD had a past to live down. In additon Intel was in the wings with knives for mobo makers that looked like they were AMD friendly...scared a few I bet.
Dresden?...there has been little feedback that I have seen from that site. We hear bits about copper contamination but no meat.
The Texas fab had a bad time a year or so ago and there have been recurrent yield problems. It is hard to say what went wrong as those up high will not speak....gag deal?...AMD gives them a separation agreement with a lip zipper? The departure of Raza.....what was that about?
I know the tame board of sleepers. the hated omnibus proxy ruke that allows such a situation to continue.
The box makers also do not forget that the prices have fallen due to AMD presence and want to kepp AMD alive. That is why IBM and CPQ saved them...for selfizh reasons.

As to 6 posts.....I am 2-3 orders of magnitude below the leader in useless posts.
